ramen rating: monta japanese noodle house – las vegas, nv

Hmm…a plaza with a “Big Wong” next to a massage parlor featuring blacked out windows. Ah, this brings back memories… I don’t usually frequent these kind of places, but this is Vegas. Though Go Ramen! gave it a somewhat lukewarm review, long-time reader “Peter” has been urging me to try this place. Monta Japanese Noodle...
o'zack gyoza-flavored chips

o’zack gyoza-flavored chips

Mmm, they *do* taste like gyoza. If you’ve ever had gyoza that’s had the edge of its skin slightly charred, that’s what these chips taste like. There’s a touch of spiciness too. The only downside is that it’s a bit heavy on the MSG.

From the article “Tests show that raccoons prefer chicken ramen over a variety of fruits and vegetables. Traps that contain ramen are far more likely to capture raccoons than traps that use other forms of bait.” Hmm, apparently, I was a raccoon in a past life. via Japan Probe

ramen rating: ramen kagetora – costa mesa, ca

Ramen Kagetora makes its debut appearance at Mitsuwa’s Hokkaido Fair this week with two types of miso ramen. Count me in! Kagetora’s miso is made with 3 kinds of miso paste, but wanting something stronger-flavored, I opted for the karamiso (spicy miso) ramen. The mildly spicy soup was tasty. The smooth and mildly sweet miso...

I’m sure it needs no introduction: Cup Noodles celebrates its 40th birthday next week, and to celebrate, a Cup Noodles Museum will open in Yokohama, Japan. Thanks to a recent scandal in China, Ajisen Ramen’s stock on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange has been steadily dropping. The scandal? Ajisen’s advertising and marketing materials claim that their soup is cooked with pork bones for 20 hours, making it rich in calcium. The truth? They’ve been using “concentrated liquid not pork bones,” diluted...

Hey! We’ve been linked on HuffPo! On an article…called…ramen…is…racist?? Those of you in the know have probably heard the terms shina soba, which predates “ramen.” “Shina” came to be regarded as a slur against China. “…to eat shina soba in those years was to symbolically gobble up China itself. As China represented the empire’s biggest...
